What the ESP / Stability Control Light Means
The ESP / stability control light on a your car indicates the electronic stability program is either active (flashing) or has a fault/is switched off (steady). ESP helps prevent skids by braking individual wheels, so a steady light means that safety net may be unavailable.
Common Causes
- ESP switched off manually
- Wheel speed sensor fault
- Steering angle sensor needs calibration
- Brake light switch fault
- ABS module fault
How to Fix It
- Check the ESP off button has not been pressed
- Restart the car and drive a short distance
- Scan for stability-control codes
- Recalibrate the steering angle sensor if needed
- Repair the underlying sensor or switch fault
